The thing (likely) missing from your skincare routine + why you need it for glowing skin.
Do you hop from one skincare product to another?
Are you currently spending $50-$100 on all your products combined?
Are you dealing with active breakouts, redness, irritation, and/or scarring?
If you are going to spend your money anywhere, here’s where I believe it will have the biggest impact for your skin! The skin primarily your face, neck, ears and chest) need protection every day. Even when it’s not so sunny out and even if you are not planning to spend the day outside. And no, the SPF in make-up, BB Cream, or moisturizer isn’t typically enough.
SPF is an often-overlooked piece of a daily skincare routine but is an important step to both protect the skin and support a healthy skin barrier. If you are experiencing any type of irritation, like breakouts, dryness, or redness, or have scarring or hyperpigmentation, daily SPF protection will provide a protective shield and help reduce oxidative damage, in turn speeding up your skin’s natural healing process. It also prevents sebum oxidization, resulting in fewer breakouts. When the skin is protected from sun exposure, it can focus its attention on healing and repair. Don’t skip the SPF!
Do I need SPF in the Winter?
Even in the Winter your skin needs SPF every day. Especially true for those who are noticing dry of flaky skin. Whether it’s physical or chemical, wear it! Everyday! Sunscreen is so important to help protect and repair barrier function and keep the skin happy and healthy. Do not be swayed by other fancy skincare products and forget your sunscreen. There is truly no sense in spending money on other products if you are skipping daily SPF.
Hydrated skin is happy skin, which promotes healing and gives you that summertime glow! If your skin is feeling dry and flaky, consider layering a facial mist and don’t forget the SPF.
How much SPF is enough?
Sunscreen needs to be slathered on. General rule is 2 finger lengths worth of product for face, neck and ears.
The trick to WANT to wear spf daily:
Always choose something that works for you and a formula that you love.
Acne-safe skincare means thinking about how ingredients affect our body, both on the outside and the inside. We want to choose products that are effective at delivering acne-healing results, while also protecting and supporting the skin barrier to reduce future flare-ups. In addition, we want to reduce and eliminate all endocrine disruptors that will affect hormones internally. Navigating the overflowing skincare aisles can be overwhelming, so I find it best to always check the ingredients on labels. If you’re experiencing active and inflamed breakouts, create a gentle, hydrating, and oil-free routine that reduces excess sebum and protects the skin barrier without endocrine disruptors.
